Custom furniture is a considered purchase. This page explains how collection, delivery, payment, timber care, and aftercare work, so you know what to expect before your piece comes home.
Collection and delivery
Collection is available from the Springwood workshop by arrangement. Local delivery is available across the Blue Mountains and Greater Western Sydney. Wider NSW delivery can also be arranged. Delivery costs are quoted individually because every piece, destination and access situation is different. Sydney delivery is calculated by distance. For larger pieces, I can also provide in-home placement or installation by arrangement. Let me know about stairs, lifts, narrow access, or other details when you enquire so I can plan the delivery properly.
Payments and deposits
Booking a custom piece.
A 50% deposit is required to secure a custom order and begin the work. The remaining balance is due on delivery or collection. Payment can be made by cash or EFT.
Timber variation
Natural variation is part of the material.
The timber I use is often reclaimed. That means your piece may include knots, old nail holes, grain variation, colour movement and other marks from the timber’s earlier life. These features are part of the appeal of reclaimed timber and make every piece individual. I will always aim to show and explain the timber character before a custom piece is confirmed, but no two boards — or finished pieces — will ever be exactly the same.
Care information
Looking after your furniture.
Care instructions are provided with each finished piece. The right cleaning and oiling approach depends on the timber and finish used, so please follow the care notes supplied for your furniture. In general, wipe spills promptly, use coasters or placemats for hot or wet items, avoid harsh chemical cleaners, and keep solid timber away from prolonged direct heat or moisture.
Looking after solid timber helps it stay useful and looking good for longer. If you are unsure about care or a finish needs attention, get in touch before using a harsh cleaner or attempting a repair.
Changes after work has started
If your brief changes.
I understand that ideas can evolve. If you need to change a detail after work has started, get in touch as soon as possible. Whether a change can be made depends on how far the build has progressed. I will always explain what is possible and any impact on timing or cost before moving ahead.
Workmanship support and returns
Support after your piece comes home.
In The Groove Woodwork provides a 12-month workmanship guarantee on completed furniture. Because custom-made pieces are built specifically for you, and ready-made pieces are one of a kind, change-of-mind returns are not offered. This does not affect any rights you may have under Australian Consumer Law if a product does not meet a consumer guarantee. If something does not look right when your piece arrives, please get in touch promptly. I want to understand the issue and work with you on the right next step.
